Stephan LaCasse On Beauty

Last Summer, Singer/Songwriter Stephan LaCasse of The Clearing told us his thoughts on beauty.

“I think everything has the potential to be beautiful, it depends on the scene, right? It's sort of a marriage.  I could look at a building and think that it's beautiful because I'm in a good mood, or I'm looking at things and thinking a certain way.  I can look at the same thing the next day and think it's hideous, it just depends. there are so many variables.  It's hard to say what beauty is, because there are so many variables.

If you ask anybody at any given time, you could ask someone what's beautiful every day for a full year and probably everyday they'll tell you something different, depending on where they're at.

I think once a picture is put in the brain, it's always beautiful, but when you take that picture, and you go - 'that's beautiful' and you absorb it as a beautiful thing, it does really depend on your state of mind at the time, what your perspective is, what your frame is.

To be able to really appreciate that something beautiful is beautiful, you have to kind of step outside your shoes, your body, for a minute and just take that snapshot from an outside perspective, otherwise you're just sort of like a cat looking around.  To be able to go, "look at all of this, this is beautiful, wow - those clouds are beautiful", that's, you know, there's a lot in that statement.  I think totally the cliche's true; beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
