Clarity in Scent: Province Apothecary Parfum Botanique

For all the fragrance lovers out there on the scent for a clean and green perfume, here's a local line that is sure to become one (or all) of your favourites.

If you live in Toronto, and you haven't heard of Province Apothecary, I'm surprised. Founded by Julie Clark, an aromatherapist and herbalist, the line grew out of demand from clients in her practice. A regular at the Junction Flea, Clark was quickly picked up by local shops and soon after spotted by Toronto Detox Market's Bita Doagoo.

The line is a handmade collection of skincare essentials, with an eczema cream that boasts quite the following, but personally, I think the fragrances are something special.

Fresh and natural, these blends of essential oils are sophisticated, yet simple. Clark is schooled in the way to build a fragrance, having studied perfume creation, though knowing the rules often helps to break them, she blends up to 6 scents to create each perfume, letting the notes shine on their own, giving the fragrance clarity, as opposed to the layers and layers of scents in a common fragrance.

There are currently 6 scents, each available in a 12ml roll on, or as a spray in an alcohol base. Each formula is blended to suit your mood or state of mind. My current pick is No. 14, which features wild ylang ylang and Indian cardamom - a motivating scent meant to uplift: "For dreaming big and making things happen". I'm all in.
